Introduction

Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (PTY)Ltd, is a dynamic role player in the integrated broiler industry with an abattoir in Reitz in the North Eastern Free State. We offer you the opportunity to establish yourself within a professional, corporate environment in the countryside.

JOB FUNCTION

The Industrial Engineering University Graduate position will develop core skills in the areas outlined below by undertaking the required on-the-job training, by assisting Industrial Engineer with different Admin-related tasks to obtain valuable on-the-job experience. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) or National Diploma (NQF6).
  • Type: Industrial Engineering.
  • Must be unemployed and require practical experience.
  • Must NOT have benefitted from an internship, Learnership Graduate program before.
  • Must be joining an Internship/ Graduate Program for the first time.
  • Computer Literate in MS office package is essential.
  • Must have an understanding of the following:
    • Process Mapping: Value Stream Mapping (VSM), SIPOC, Flow Charts.
    • Waste Identification: Deep understanding of the 7+ wastes (DOWNTIME).
    • Kaizen Facilitation: Leading rapid improvement events.
    • Root Cause Analysis: 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams (Ishikawa).
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC): Monitoring process stability.
  • A willingness to work overtime including weekends, when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Please note the tasks outlined below will be performed under the guidance and supervision of the applicable trainer, until such a time the candidate is signed off as fully competent in all areas:

  • Design efficient production processes to eliminate waste and make the most of every resource involved in manufacturing.
  • Identifying possible projects in the processing environment.
  • Identifying production needs on a continues basis to ensure effectivity of production.
  • Ergonomically study of each department.
  • Responsible for driving the Continuous Improvement Program (20 Keys), providing the necessary expert support and coordination in terms of:
  • Implementation of the program for all keys in conjunction with the key leaders.
  • Overall plan and goals in conjunction with the key leaders.
  • Following up on progress on action plans and goal achievement matrices and providing the necessary guidance.
  • Assisting key leaders with corrective actions on action plans where applicable.
  • Streamlining complex workflows to reduce cycle times.
  • Drive strong focus on Safety, Production, Quality, Planning, and Costing.
  • Eliminating non-value-added activities (Muda).
  • Balancing production lines for maximum throughput.
  • Simulating scenarios to predict and prevent bottlenecks.
  • To successfully complete all allocated training interventions by direct manager.
  • To mentor and coach all relevant staff to ensure standards, processes and practices.
  • Any other duties as may be required by management.
  • Other Administrative within the Engineering Department.
  • Any other duties as may be required by management.

Skills Required

  • High level of computer literacy and the ability to learn how to use the On Key System and other relevant Engineering Dept. Systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels.
  • Able to work appropriately with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Analytical and meticulous attention to detail.
